      • Lesson Eight

        A Corpus-Based Pronunciation Course

      • Rationale

This lesson serves as the summary session for the course to provide students with an opportunity to review the segmental issues they found among themselves in this course. These segmental issues refer to common vowel and consonant pronunciation problems that students may encounter.

In this lesson, students will work in groups to address these segmental issues. The group setting allows for collaborative learning and encourages students to engage with their peers. To make the review process more engaging and motivating, exciting group competitions are incorporated. These competitions involve games and exercises that are specifically designed to address the common segmental issues faced by Chinese learners of English.

The exercises and games in the group competitions are designed to raise students' awareness of their own segmental issues in English pronunciation and provide focused practice in those areas. Through participation in group competitions and exercises, students gain practice and develop skills to self-correct pronunciation errors, fostering autonomy in their language learning journey.
