      • Lesson One

        A Corpus-Based Listening Course

      • Rationale

Lesson 1 is designed to be the first part of the introduction session in this course. In this lesson, the idea of listening practice with corpora will be introduced to students. There is also a demonstration of the three corpora used in this course. The content of this lesson is divided into three parts. First, factors that influence listening will be discussed. Then, the method of using corpora to improve listening skills will be introduced, which follows the demonstration of how to use corpora. Lastly, an activity is designed for students to examine what they learn. During these feature demonstrations, videos and sound samples will be used to reinforce the illustration and for a more vivid effect.
