      • Lesson Six

        A Corpus-Based Pronunciation Course

      • Rationale

This lesson aims to bridge the gap between the theoretical knowledge of suprasegmental issues in English pronunciation that students acquired in the previous introduction lesson and its practical application. Throughout the lesson, students will engage in the analysis of corpus data, with a specific focus on identifying suprasegmental problems (i.e., linking, intonation, pausing, and stress).

By actively analyzing and identifying suprasegmental issues in corpus data, students will develop a heightened sensitivity to pronunciation issues. This heightened awareness will consequently motivate them to avoid these issues in their own pronunciation. Thus, this lesson serves as another key component of this corpus-based course, alongside the segmental exercise lesson, in empowering students to utilize corpora effectively in improving their English pronunciation.
